As Told by Ginger

I'm about to dive into this show because it's so good.

I actually didn't watch this show much as a kid I definitely saw it but didn't pay attetnion. I recently watched the whole thing and I even recorded a commentary video about it. It seems like it'll be a regular nickelodeon slice of life show and it is at first. But even that is entertaining to me. The way they take that formula and make it interesting to not just the girls but also boys and enbys. The show is about Ginger so you'd assume it's more of a girl show and it is a girl show with how it's advertized and presented.

BUT theres' so many themes in this show that just fit perfectly. I went it thinking I was going to like Ginger the main character the most. I found myself liking her brother as a character more. It's so interesting to see the typical "boy likes gross things character" be something MORE than that. He's a scientist, philosopher, psychologist and is still the boy who likes gross and weird things. I had so much fun watching his character form into what it is.

I also found myself liking Courtney as a character. I can definitely see where the theory of "Courtney is a lesbian" came from. It's interesting to see a character who is supposed to be the "mean popular girl" and she is once in a while. But most of the time she is actually just curious and sweet. She's stuck in a boring life in her eyes and wants to explore other people's experiences. It's nice to see the out of touch rich girl actually be interested in things outside of her bubble. There are still moments where she's just a rich girl, though and that's all she sees herself as. Like in the Ski trip episode, the one where she makes Ginger be her, the lice episode. But in the end, she's understanding and nice. I think I only remember her being straight up mean to Ginger once or twice. Which is going to happen if you're a spoiled middle schooler but she's so much more than that.

Then there's Louis. I actually love her character I relate to her alot even though she's nothing like me. She gives off tired boss woman energy. The fact that she even has an arc is amazing. Usually in shows like this the adults are ignored. But I guess in Clascky Csupo it's different. Parents get arcs and thoughts and feelings just like the kids even though the show is about the kids. The adults get just as much care put into their characters. I love that she gets married and has a better life for herself in the end she deserves it.

Ginger herself is relatable but not that relatable. She's the Arnold of the show, the one that wants to do the right thing. BUT in the first epsiode she's arrested for robbing a bank. That already makes her so interesting. I know I said I enjoyed other characters over her, but she still is a well written character. She breaks the mold of the goody two shoes character quite often and does things that young girls actually do in real life. And towards the end of the show, she's an edgy teenager. A complete opposite of her middle school version. She's moody, angry, in a rock band, has blue hair and pronouns. Like she still is who she is but she's angry at the world towards the end of the show.

But yeah if you haven't watched this show or haven't revisited it, go check it out! If anything it's fun to watch.
